Solidus identifies Pliskin/Snake as his brother. Pliskin/Snake appears in the helicopter above Raiden and declares that the man before him is not Solid Snake. He refers to Raiden as a “messenger from the Patriots” and declares that he is the “boss to surpass Big Boss himself.” (A repetition on Liquid Snake’s motivations in Metal Gear Solid). He recognizes Raiden but can not place where he has seen him before. Similarly, Big Boss eventually went his own way and his 'ideals’ became something alien to society.)Īt this point Solidus appears before Raiden for the first time at the other end of the connecting bridge.
Throughout the series characters with a ‘pure will’ and dedication to ideals have ended up being portrayed as the bad guys. (Of course, the irony is that Solid Snake is all too aware that those same qualities can make somebody a terrorist in the eyes of society. It is for that reason that he doubts Snake could ever become a terrorist. For Raiden, the reason Snake managed to save Shadow Moses is not because of his will to survive (as the Patriot AI seems to believe) but because he has the courage to fight for something new. Snake is a character who can elevate himself through a mixture of his own will and dedication to something higher than himself.
